This downtown fad shall pass. They can do what ever they want as long as it is not taxpayer dollars. I do not have a problem with the the planners as much as the consultants that come in and sell the local politicos something that allows them to deflect attention from the real needs of their cities. Items such as crumbling infrastructure, failing schools, underfunded pensions, budget defficets and high taxes. Then again, these types of issues are not sexy. I suppose it is easier to cut a ribbon than to cut a budget. As for the local planners. All of them that do not go along, most likely won't be around to see that photo-op ribbon cutting celebration.
